Saturday Night Eats - Vinoteca

So the Gardener and I hadn't seen our old friends Dr & Mr French in an age...or Holay for that matter...so we all decided to get together for a night out and do some catching up...

The unfortunate location chosen for this dinner was Vinoteca on 11th St NW near U...First - let's focus on the positive...overall, the food ranged from pretty good to OK...

Dr. French, the Gardener and Mr Q all enjoyed the meaty sliders (6 for $20)...we tried beef, venizon and lamb...the beef sliders were the best, but all were good...

Holay found her Green Salad ($7) OK, but needed some olive oil to dress it up a bit...

And by the way, while we're focusing on the positive, Holay was wearing the most fabulous pair of red heels out for the very first time on Saturday night and looked smokin' hot in them!!

But I digress...Holay also had a veggie panini ($9) which was also just OK...nothing special.

Mr. French thought the pea soup ($7) had an odd flavor, but enjoyed the goat flight cheese platter($12.50)...the portobello sliders (3 for $10.50) were adequate but Mr French found his buns dry...well, the sliders buns, not his buns...

Dr. French also tried the scallops($14) and thought they were tasty enough, but nowhere near the quality of Zaytinya...

The Gardener and I also had the shrimp & grits ($14) which was a very tasty dish...the best thing we tried...

Now the bad news....it pains me to criticize an independent restaurant that has chosen our 'hood to make a go of it, but Vinoteca has two major strikes against it...

The first major strike...NOISE!!

At the risk of sounding curmudgeonly, this might be the noisiest place I've ever had dinner...no, really, it's true...unless we were talking to the person directly next to us we literally had to yell to make ourselves heard...no exaggeration. After 2+ hours of this, we couldn't wait to get outside...

The second and final blow - poor service.
The wait staff seemed unorganized and somewhat confused...most of the food came out in a haphazard manner at varying times over a 2 hour period, but the worst was the veggie panini and portobello sliders coming out to the table almost an hour and a half after they'd been ordered! Crazy.

With all that being said, the place was packed so obviously there are people out there that enjoy yelling at each other through dinner, dealing with poor service and paying too much for adequate food...

Mr Q, the Gardener, Dr & Mr. French and Holay are not 5 of those people.

Unfortunately the unanimous verdict on Vinoteca is none of us will be going back...
