Saturday Night Eats with Mr Q!!

New Feature for QSN!

Mr Q has dedicated himself to reviewing a new restaurant each Saturday night...and "new" restaurant means it's new to him! Doesn't have to be "upscale" (and most likely won't be) and it could have been around for years but Mr Q has never been there...
I'm hoping this is a good way to get out of our Dupont Italian Kitchen/Stoney's rut...and hopefully you'll find some benefit as well...

So first up is Rosemary's Thyme on the corner of 18th and S St NW...

Mr Q was accompanied by the Gardener and AJ on Saturday, and although the weather was a bit on the humid side we decided to sit outdoors and people watch...

We weren't excited by where the hostess sat us...there appeared to be plenty of space on the patio but for some reason we were squeezed into a table between two other parties...and the table would have been comfortable for two people but was a little tight for three...and no, we're not large gentlemen!

Seating aside, a waiter showed up quickly- poured water and took our drink orders - Mr Q had a delicious French martini, the Gardener chose a Margarita on the rocks w/salt, and AJ had a refreshing glass of Pinot Grigio.... our drinks showed up quickly along with a basket of bread w/ olive tapenade...Mr Q's not a big fan of olives but the Gardener said it was good.

Service was VERY good, our waiter was definitely on top of things but we never felt rushed...

AJ had the Strip Kebab ($14.95) which he enjoyed...said the (plentiful) meat was good, but was made much better by the dipping sauce that was provided...(see small bowl on left)

Gardener had the Adana Kebab ($13.95)...he described it as a gyro but without the bread...Gardener was slightly envious that AJ appeared to have more meat on his plate than he did but definitely enjoyed his kebab and would order it again...

Mr Q had a Chicken Shish ($12.95 - inexplicably named...like it was too much trouble to add the word Kebab on the menu after the Shish?) Aside from the naming issues, I enjoyed my meal - the marinade was good, the chicken tender, the veggies crisp and the rice fluffy...good stuff!

Instead of dessert we decided to have a beer and do some people watching (good spot for that by the way)....

We did ask to see a dessert menu just to check it out...unfortunately when the waiter handed it to him Mr Q had one of his spaz out moments and knocked his almost full Sam Adams Summer Ale all over the place...nice. AJ and the Gardener were suitably embarrassed...maybe that French martini was stronger than I realized...

So overall, we found Rosemary's Thyme a great neighborhood spot, service was very good, food was well-prepared and reasonably priced with decent sized portions...the outside tables were slightly uncomfortable (oh, and AJ complained about being bitten by mosquitos, but I think that's a risk you take when asking for an outdoor table in DC...Mr Q and the Gardener had no mosquito trouble...must be that young silky smooth skin of AJ's they found tempting)...

Final rating: Recommended - we'd go there again.

When I lived at 18th & R, I ate at Rosemary & Thyme mulitple times a week. I loooove it. I still go there whenever I can convince anyone to eat there with me at this point. I highly recommend the Napa Valley Salad with Salmon or just the salmon platter-deeelicious! Give me a ring on your return visit, I am always up for it!
