Your children will wonder what all the fuss was about...

As exciting as the news is yesterday from the Supreme Court in California...

"Furthermore, in contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation, and, more generally, that an individual's sexual orientation -- like a person's race or gender -- does not constitute a legitimate basis upon which to deny or withhold legal rights.

Wow! Really?? That's just crazy talk!!...

Mr Q isn't trying to take away from the historical signifcance of California's decison, but...it IS a little sad to me that a statement this obvious will take so long to work its way into mainstream society...Just like people shake their head in bewilderment at how it could take so long for the Loving v. Virginia decision in 1967, your children will look back at this point in time and wonder why such blatant discrimination was tolerated in the United States...

Also, some good news with DC's domestic partner laws as well...I guess little by little we'll get there, and one day we'll have equal rights at a FEDERAL level with our straight friends and family...but will Mr Q be around to see it??
